What is PRP Collagen Induction Therapy injections?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a safe method using blood-derived growth factors using your own blood. Similar to dermal fillers, PRP can be injected under the skin. PRP injections under the skin mimics an injury to the skin stimulating collagen production. This is a great alternative for individuals who are not a candidate for fillers. To acquire optimal results, it will typically require 3-4 treatments 6 weeks apart. Effects may last up to 12 months.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a safe method using blood-derived growth factors using your own blood. The treatment process includes drawing the patient's blood and separating the platelet rich plasma from the blood, then reinjected in the targeted area(s). PRP contains all the growth factors and nutrients that help us heal ourselves. Since this is a derivative of your own blood, there shouldn’t be any side effects from the PRP.

PRP Injection Instructions

PRIOR TO THE PROCEDURE

  • Arrive for your appointment in the morning with a clean face. Please refrain from using any makeup, lotions, or creams beforehand.

    7 Days prior to treatment - Do not take Advil, Motrin, Aleve, Naproxen, or corticosteroids. These drugs may inhibit the stem cells natural inflammatory response and may increase the risk of bruising.

  • If you are on any blood thinners, may be contraindicated to treatment: Lovenox, Heparin, Plavix, Xaralto, Warfarin (Coumadin), Eliquis

  • Stop taking 7 days before - Vitamin D, E, turmeric, John’s Wort, Flaxseed oil and fish oil (other oils high in omega-3 fatty acids) supplements

  • Refrain from direct sun exposure or using tanning beds for 7 days before your treatment. Treatment cannot be performed on sunburned skin.

  • Stop using topical anti-aging, acne, and skin lightening products at least 72 hours before your treatment.

POST-PROCEDURE INSTRUCTIONS

  • You may wash your face with gentle cleanser for the first 24-48 hours after treatment. You may return to your normal skincare routine after 48 hours. Your skin may feel dry but this will resolve on its own.

  • It is normal for minor skin redness/irritation after treatment

  • over the next few days, your skin will reasorb the PRP. It will take your body 4-6 weeks to start producing increased collagen

  • AVOID

    • Anti-inflammatory medications such as Advil (ibuprofen), Motrin, or Naproxen for 48-72 hours post procedure

    • Physical activity, exercise, hot tubs, steam rooms, and saunas 48 hours after treatment
